Found Collages in the Subway
When subway advertising posters are removed, the layered remnants of successive campaigns can unexpectedly become works of collage. I began photographing these accidental compositions as found artworks — fragments of typography, imagery and color shaped as much by removal and decay as by design.
As static subway advertising continues to give way to digital displays, the series also records a visual language that is gradually disappearing from New York’s transit landscape.
